Job Description

About Salvo Software

Salvo Software is pioneering automotive technology with innovative cloud and diagnostic solutions for safer, smarter, and more connected vehicles. Join an expert team solving complex challenges at the intersection of embedded systems and cloud services in a collaborative environment where your impact shapes the aftermarket industry.

Role Overview

We're seeking a senior hands-on "Developer-Hacker" engineer skilled in low-level vehicle systems (ECU binary data, CAN logs) and high-level cloud-based software development with C#. As a systems architect, you will design cloud features interacting with vehicle modules, process firmware binaries, and perform precision checksum validations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reverse engineer ECU/TCU/PCM firmware binaries with hex analysis and custom checksum calculations.
  • Master communication protocols like UDS (ISO 14229), J1939, and OEM-specific stacks.
  • Diagnose communication issues using CAN logs and sniffer tools such as Vehicle Spy, PCAN, or CANalyzer.
  • Collaborate on firmware development and secure bootloaders with embedded teams.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in automotive software engineering focused on aftermarket or performance tuning.
  • Proven expertise with proprietary diagnostic protocols for Ford, GM, Stellantis, and Polaris.
  • Deep knowledge of CAN bus, UDS, J1939, OBD-II standards, and hardware interfaces (PCAN, Kvaser, Intrepid).
  • Strong binary firmware skills including Intel Hex, Motorola S-Record formats and disassembler tools (OlyDBG, Ida Pro).
  • Must be US-based for real-time collaboration.
  • Bachelor's degree in CS, EE, or equivalent professional experience in automotive reverse engineering.
