Role Overview

We're seeking a hands-on "Developer-Hacker" with expertise in low-level vehicle systems and cloud-based software development. As a senior systems architect, you will develop cloud features interfacing with vehicle control modules, analyze ECU firmware binaries, and implement complex checksum validations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reverse engineer ECU/TCU/PCM firmware binaries and perform manual hex deconstruction with custom CRC calculations.
  • Master and troubleshoot communication protocols including UDS (ISO 14229), J1939, and OEM-specific protocols.
  • Analyze CAN logs using tools like Vehicle Spy, PCAN, or CANalyzer to resolve complex communication issues.
  • Collaborate with embedded developers on firmware and secure bootloader problem-solving.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in automotive software engineering focusing on aftermarket or performance tuning.
  • Hands-on expert knowledge of proprietary Ford, GM, Stellantis, and Polaris diagnostic protocols.
  • Strong proficiency in CAN bus, UDS, J1939, OBD-II standards, and hardware interfaces such as PCAN, Kvaser, or Intrepid Control Systems.
  • Deep knowledge of ECU firmware formats, checksum calculations, and use of disassemblers like OlyDBG or IDA Pro.
  • Must be U.S.-based for real-time collaboration.
  • Bachelor’s in CS, EE, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
