About Salvo Software

Salvo Software is at the forefront of automotive innovation, creating cloud and diagnostic technologies to enhance vehicle safety, intelligence, and connectivity. Our expert team merges embedded systems expertise with cloud service development in a collaborative setting, influencing the aftermarket industry directly. This role suits engineers passionate about merging cloud development with vehicle reverse engineering.

Role Overview

We seek a senior "Developer-Hacker" skilled in low-level vehicle systems—decoding ECU firmware and CAN logs—and high-level development, including cloud-based C# services. As a systems architect, you will develop cloud features interfacing with vehicle control modules, analyze firmware binaries, and handle complex checksum validations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform binary reverse engineering on ECU/TCU/PCM firmware.
  • Master protocols like UDS (ISO 14229), J1939, and OEM-specific communications.
  • Analyze CAN traffic using tools like Vehicle Spy, PCAN, and CANalyzer.
  • Collaborate on firmware issues and secure bootloader development.

Required Experience & Skills

  • 7+ years in automotive software, focusing on aftermarket or performance tuning.
  • Expertise with Ford, GM, Stellantis, and Polaris diagnostic protocols.
  • In-depth knowledge of CAN bus, UDS, J1939, OBD-II, and hardware interfaces (PCAN, Kvaser, Intrepid Control Systems).
  • Proficiency in ECU firmware formats and checksum calculations.
  • Familiarity with disassembler tools like OlyDBG, Ida Pro.
  • Based in the U.S. for real-time collaboration.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in relevant fields.
