About Salvo Software
Salvo Software pioneers automotive technology by creating innovative cloud and diagnostic solutions to enhance vehicle safety, intelligence, and connectivity. Join a team tackling complex challenges between embedded systems and cloud services. This is a collaborative, impact-driven environment perfect for engineers passionate about blending cloud development with vehicle reverse engineering.
Role Overview
We seek a hands-on senior engineer—a true "Developer-Hacker"—skilled in both low-level vehicle system analysis (ECU binary data, CAN logs) and advanced cloud software development in C#. You'll architect cloud features interacting directly with vehicle control modules, performing firmware binary processing and checksum validations.
Key Responsibilities
- Reverse engineer ECU/TCU/PCM firmware binaries, manually analyzing hex data and implementing checksums (CRC).
- Master communication protocols including UDS (ISO 14229), J1939, and OEM-specific standards.
- Analyze CAN bus traffic with tools like Vehicle Spy, PCAN, or CANalyzer.
- Collaborate on firmware with embedded developers, supporting secure bootloader development.
Requirements
- 7+ years in automotive software engineering, focusing on aftermarket or performance tuning.
- Hands-on experience with Ford, GM, Stellantis, Polaris diagnostic protocols.
- Deep knowledge of CAN bus, UDS, J1939, OBD-II, and hardware interfaces (PCAN, Kvaser, Intrepid).
- Proficient with ECU firmware formats and checksum calculations; experienced with disassemblers like OlyDBG, Ida Pro.
- Based in the U.S. for real-time collaboration.
- Bachelor's degree in CS, Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
